How Aldeburgh’s highways and byways are affected over Carnival weekend

Details of Highways Authority road closures, parking restrictions and enforcements, available car parking facilities and bus services on Carnival Monday are below.

In the interests of road safety, on-street car parking spaces are restricted on Carnival Monday, and your co-operation in making alternative parking arrangements will be appreciated.  Please don’t park in unsafe, dangerous areas, or areas with restrictions imposed as below.  We operate safe and organised car parking facilities on Monday, and we’d prefer you use these, details below.

Breaches of parking regulations will result in a fixed penalty fine or prosecution, and unlawfully parked vehicles may be towed away.

 

NO PARKING in the following on Carnival Monday:

  • Aldeburgh Road, Thorpeness on west side
  • Brudenell Street
  • Choppins Hill to junction of Hartington Road
  • Church Car Park
  • Church Farm Road
  • Crabbe Street from Market Cross Place to junction with unnamed road south of Dial Lane
  • Crag Path from Market Cross Place entrance north and south to bollards in either direction
  • Crespigny Road
  • Dial Lane
  • Hertford Place
  • High Street
  • King Street
  • Lee Road from Crescent Road to Park Road
  • Leiston Road from Saxmundham Road roundabout to Linden Road
  • Market Cross Place
  • Oakley Square (reserved for disabled parking)
  • Park Road from Victoria Road to School Field, and High Street to Lee Road
  • Remembrance Road, Thorpeness on west side, from junction with Aldeburgh Road, Thorpeness to car park entrance in a northerly direction
  • Saxmundham Road from roundabout to Linden Road
  • Slaughden Road from junction with High Street to boatyard
  • St Peter’s Road
  • St Paul’s Close
  • Unnamed Road between High Street & Crabbe Street south of Dial Lane
  • Victoria Road
  • Thorpe Road from Wentworth Road junction to car park in Thorpeness
  • Wentworth Road

Closed to traffic from 9am:

  • Choppins Hill
  • Crabbe Street from Market Cross Place to junction with unnamed south south of Dial Lane
  • Crag Path from Market Cross Place entrance north and south to bollards in either direction
  • Crespigny Road
  • Dial Lane
  • High Street (from 10am)
  • Market Cross Place
  • St Peter’s Road
  • St Paul’s Close
  • Victoria Road between High Street & The Mill Inn

One way traffic in operation:

  • Alde Lane – one way traffic in a northerly direction towards Victoria Road
  • Aldeburgh Road, Thorpeness – one way traffic in a northerly direction
  • Remembrance Road, Thorpeness – one way traffic in a northerly direction, from junction with Aldeburgh Road, Thorpeness to car park entrance in a northerly direction
  • Thorpe Road – one way traffic in a northerly direction towards Thorpeness

Car Parking:

Dedicated parking is available on Monday, arranged by Aldeburgh Carnival with stewarding. We recommend using our car parks for organised parking. Only £10 all day, including a donation towards the spectacular firework display, and open from 8.30am:
  • Kings Field “Car Park 1” (Off Saxmundham Road/Leiston Road A1094 roundabout). Funds raised in aid of Leiston Air Training Corps, and Aldeburgh & Thorpeness Rugby Clubs
  • School Playing Field “Car Park 2” (off Park Road)

A one way loop around Triangle Wood will be in operation for the safety of queuing traffic approaching both car parks.  You will see signs for both car parks as you approach on the A1094 Saxmundham Road and Leiston Road.

There are limited spaces available in Oakley Square for disabled parking only.

Operates between 10am-2pm and 4pm-6pm, from Triangle Wood (near Library) to Wentworth Road via Victoria Road (returning via Church Farm Road). Supported by Belle Coaches.

Public Transport:

On Carnival Monday, First Bus Routes 64 and 65 will terminate at Saxmundham Road/Leiston Road Roundabout.

Border Bus Route 521 will operate temporary stops in Wentworth Road and at the Dolphin Inn, Thorpeness.  Refer to the Traveline website (www.traveline.info) for more details.
