Donators to, and supporters of, the carnival are essential to us being able to continue bringing you possibly the best family three days out in East Suffolk!

Again this year we have support from local firms, shops and individuals and we’d like to thank;

Aldeburgh Bookshop, who have not only been generous in providing books to the Silent Auction new Kiddies Korner group of lots, but were instrumental in the inaugural Childrens Treasure Hunt last year and are again donating a first and second prize for both boys and girls in this years hunt. They, like us, are keen to encourage children to take part and enter the spirit of Carnival!

Speaking of the spirit of Carnival we’ve had great feedback following the new bunting going up in the town, but we are extremely grateful to Suffolk Coastal Estate Agents for having sponsored all the cheerful flags which line the High Street again this year, adding to the carnival excitement. In the lead up to the weekend you can take part in our Spot The Window competition – it gets trickier every year! – Lighthouse Restaurant are sponsoring the cash prize for this.

Carnival weekend starts on Saturday with the fundraising music event hosted by Aldeburgh Lifeboat and presented by Ipswich All Stars. Sunday brings the runners entering this years 10K Mini Marathon from the Moot Hall via Thorpeness and returning, possibly the most scenic 10K in Suffolk!  Both of these events wouldn’t be possible without the generosity of Aitch Properties.

The amazing Giant Kites on Saturday and Sunday are flying thanks to being supported by Bedfords Estate Agents, in conjunction with Marshall Hatchchick solicitors.  Saturday and Sunday also sees the very popular Duck Races on the yacht pond, sponsored by Aldeburgh Yacht Club. On Sunday the Egg Boat Race, also on the yacht pond, is sponsored by Aldeburgh Market , and  Allensfield House are sponsoring the Punch and Judy Show on the Moot Green. We’re hoping some of their residents may be able to join in with the audience – “that’s the way to do it!”

On Carnival Day itself, after the fair weather rocket is launched, Swimming Races start and again Regatta Restaurant are funding this popular traditional part of Carnival Day. Another tradition on the day are the Decorated Premises, sponsored by Riley & Riley, and what we hope will become a new tradition is the Waiters Race, now in its second year and arranged and funded by The Suffolk.  Funds from the Sizewell C Community Fund will pay for the band at the head of the Carnival Queens procession, along with the ever popular Samba band who will also make another appearance in the early evening Dancing In The Street. The day will be rounded off as always by the magical Lantern Procession followed by the Fireworks Display sponsored by Stay In Suffolk.

You can see it’s a community event with a cobweb of strings all pulling together and culminating with the Aldeburgh Carnival weekend…. we just need you to be there to help us all enjoy our 80th!
