Norfolk & Suffolk Family Tourism Event of the Year 2018
Top of the class!
Aldeburgh Carnival is the best Family Tourism Event of the Year in Norfolk & Suffolk! The announcement of this prestigious achievement was made at a glittering ceremony in St Edmundsbury Cathedral on 8th February arranged by EADT/EDP newspapers. Pictured on stage is the representative delegation of carnival committee members and helpers: Judy Gowen BEM, our indefatigable Carnival Secretary is holding the cut glass trophy which she had just received from David Whiteley the BBC TV personality.
The carefully guarded decisions covered a wealth of finalists in many categories throughout both counties. Aldeburgh Carnival was in competition with the Suffolk Show and the Lord Mayor of Norwich’s Celebrations. The announcement was greeted with thunderous applause from the audience of over 300, especially from those at the carnival table. Tributes were paid to all those over many generations who have worked very hard to make the carnival such a popular annual attraction. Last year’s event was especially notable – 75 carnivals in 90 years and all without a commercial base or tax payers’ money.
After the euphoria of success, we are finalising arrangements for this year’s carnival . We shall use the award as a very appropriate launching pad for the 2018 theme, “Fly Me to the Moon”. Come and join-in the celebrations over the weekend of 18th – 20th August.
