Aldeburgh Carnival – What's happening?

👑 Meet Your 2025 Carnival Queen & Attendants! 🎉

The excitement is building as we proudly announce this year’s Carnival Queen and her attendants, who will lead the procession from Saturday 16th to Monday 18th August!

🌟 Rosie Smith (18) has been chosen as the 2025 Carnival Queen. A Year 13 student at Farlingaye Sixth Form, Rosie studies Criminology, Health and Social Care, and Sociology — and also works at The Chocolate Teapot on Aldeburgh High Street. She’s been involved in the Carnival for years, first as an attendant in 2018 and now fulfilling her dream of becoming Queen.

👧 Seren Foxon-Payne (9), a Year 5 pupil at Benhall St Mary’s Primary School, and
👧 Florence Anderton (10), who attends Aldeburgh Primary School, will be this year’s attendants. Seren enjoys swimming, cycling, art, and dance, while Florence loves reading (especially Harry Potter!), swimming, art, and playing the piano.

We’re delighted to have these three wonderful young people representing the Carnival this year — be sure to give them a wave during the big weekend! ✨

🎡 Loades Model Funfair Returns to Aldeburgh! 🎠

Loades Model Funfair first came to Aldeburgh Carnival in 1969, displayed on Moot Green in a newly installed 22ft-long mobile unit. Built by Fred Loades, a local resident, the fair was the result of 50 years of work at that time.

🎪 In those early years, the Carnival was mostly a one-day event, and the Model Fair was the only attraction on that part of the town for the day.

It continued to appear every year until 1982, when it was moved to Pleasurewood Hills theme park for permanent display.

As the Carnival grew, so did its attractions. The Model Fair later moved to a site beside the toilet block — the same spot now occupied by the Galloping Horses Roundabout, owned and operated by Fred’s grandson, Martin Loades.

🛠️ Some of the models being shown are now nearly 100 years old.

We’re pleased to be bringing the show back to Aldeburgh after 40 years, offering a chance for visitors to take a nostalgic look at the past.
